Fred Hodges is a BHSI (Level 5 Performance Coach) and British Eventing Accredited Coach (UKCC Level 4), working with riders and coaches across a range of performance levels, from grassroots through to advanced and FEI competition.
With over 20 years’ experience in the equestrian industry, Fred has developed a coaching approach that combines technical expertise with a clear understanding of how riders learn, perform, and progress within structured systems. His work spans rider development, coach education, and contribution to training environments that support long-term performance.
Fred has extensive experience working within team and pathway structures in the UK, supporting riders as they progress towards higher levels of competition. Alongside his coaching, he is actively involved in the development of other professionals through mentoring and formal assessment, including his role as a British Horse Society assessor.
Internationally, Fred has worked with riders and coaches in a variety of contexts, including Ireland, the USA, and China. This has further developed his ability to adapt to different coaching systems, cultures, and performance environments.
As a rider, Fred has competed in eventing up to 2* level and in Advanced dressage, and has produced a wide range of horses across different types and disciplines. This breadth of experience underpins a practical and adaptable coaching style, grounded in real-world performance.
Fred is currently completing an MSc in Professional Practice in Sports Coaching. His work is informed by ongoing study in coaching, learning, and athlete development, alongside extensive practical experience.
